Looking Ahead: Colorado Artificial Intelligence Act (CAIA)

Colorado is the first U.S. state to regulate the use of automated decision-making tools (ADMTs) in hiring. This law impacts agencies using AI-driven resume screeners, candidate scoring, or ranking tools.

What’s Required:

  • Conduct risk assessments for discrimination or bias
  • Implement risk mitigation practices
  • Notify candidates when AI is used
  • Offer human review as an alternative
  • Publish annual AI audit summaries

Impact:
Agencies are still liable even if AI tools are provided by a client or vendor. Now is the time to audit your recruiting tech stack, document procedures, and train recruiters on candidate communications around AI.
